History

Western Architectural is one of the premier forensic architecture and engineering consulting firms serving the Western United States. Established in 1989, the company is headquartered in Portland, Oregon, with offices in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. We are proud to be a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business.

For over 20 years we have honed our expertise as building envelope specialists, offering core services in building envelope consulting for new construction and existing buildings, construction defects inspections, structural engineering, maintenance plans, reserve studies, certified mold inspections and indoor air quality assessments.

Management

Eric C. Hoff, NCARB | Architect - President/ Principal
Eric Hoff brings over 30 years of building envelope science, design, forensic architecture, and construction management expertise to his position as President of Western Architectural. He has served as a building envelope and waterproofing consultant on literally hundreds of structures of all types throughout the western United States, and has provided construction defect expert witness services since 1993. A Service Disabled Veteran, Mr. Hoff holds architecture licenses in Oregon, Nevada, Utah and Hawaii.

Nick Dente, CMI | Vice President / Principal
Since 2003, Mr. Dente has supported construction defect litigation clients throughout the western United States by providing forensic investigations, certified mold inspections, and expert witness testimony for construction defect cases. In 2005 he became a principal and co-owner of the firm, with involvement in virtually all company projects.

Western Architectural is at the forefront of the forensic building science and waterproofing industry, providing complete waterproofing consultation, water intrusion preventative analysis and investigations, and ensuring structural integrity for virtually all building types – residential, commercial and institutional.

What We Do

As building envelope consultants

We work with architects, developers and contractors early in the design process to prevent problems before they occur. To each project, we bring the most current thinking in building envelope science.

As forensic architects

We know how to maintain a building's structural health and prolong its useful life. When something does go wrong, we are the forensic investigators. Using state-of-the-art technology, we can determine the true origin of the problem; exactly what went wrong, why and where. Then, we communicate our findings in a clear, understandable way. Finally, we craft and recommend the right solution, the most efficient remediation path for the specific problem.

As expert witnesses

Our building envelope experience and forensic architecture expertise come together to serve our clients. We now have over 20 years litigation support experience. We are adept at helping attorneys and their clients cut through the myriad of technical details and present the case clearly and logically.

As reserve study specialists

We support HOA managers and Boards of Directors with the most detailed, accurate reserve studies available. "No surprises" is our charge.
